Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 2002 when Prasarana officially took over the assets and operations of the Star-LRT and Putra-LRT, and renamed both lines to Ampang Line and Kelana Jaya Line respectively. It then acquired the KL Monorail in 2007.
Serving over 500,000 commuters daily, Rapid Rail became the key contributor to the growth of the Group. Further efforts to improve its services were implemented that include enhanced train frequency; introduction of four-car trains and an integrated ticketing system known as Auto Fare Collection (AFC).
The AFC integrated ticketing system was first realised in 2012. Prior to that, the three main lines were operating independently with its own ticketing system causing a non-seamless journey. With the AFC, traveling on all three lines is made more convenient with the use of a single token or a MyRapid Card.
