KUALA LUMPUR, 15 January – Commuters using the MRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line are strongly recommended to use the cashless mode for speed and convenience beginning Tuesday (17 January) with the expiry of the promotional one-month free ride.

Operated by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd for asset owners Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd, commuters have an option to use cash or the Touch „n Go cards for the cashless mode during Phase 1 of the MRT service between Sungai Buloh and Semantan stations, which was opened for service on 16 December last year.

“With the expiry of the promotional free ride, commuters will be charged accordingly when taking the MRT Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line from Tuesday, 17 January 2017. Only tokens and Touch „n Go cards can be used to enter the ticketing gates.

“Passengers can purchase their travel tokens from the Ticket Vending Machines. For cashless mode, passengers can purchase the regular Touch 'n Go cards, the MRT Monthly Cards or the MRT Weekly Cards from the Customer Service Offices at the stations for travel convenience,” Rapid Rail said in a statement here today.

MyRapid Cards are only acceptable for use after the opening of Phase 2 between Semantan and Kajang, which is scheduled this July.

Fares are priced between RM1.20 to RM3.90 depending on distance travelled under the cash fare structure during Phase 1 of the MRT operations; and between RM1.20 to a maximum of RM3.40 under the cashless mode. Students, senior citizens and those with disabilities (OKU) will be accorded 50 percent discount. They could purchase the concession tokens from the Customer Service Offices at any MRT stations.

The MRT feeder bus service will be charging RM1 per trip. Payment can be made by cash or Touch 'n Go cards. Students, senior citizens, and those with disabilities would be accorded 50 percent discount if they pay by cash, upon producing their student cards (if not in uniform), NRIC, or OKU cards when boarding the bus.
