Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR, 31 October - Rapid KL Monorail Line would like to record its deep apologies for the inconvenience caused to our customers affected by yesterday’s incident when a bogie of Train 05 encountered technical failure after one of its rim was detached due to a broken stud bolt.

One bogie consists of two load wheels. Under normal flat tyre conditions, the bogie can continue to run on the ‘run flat’. But, in this particular case, the detached rim (first such incident) caused the ‘run flat’ mode inoperable. The incident caused Train 05 to immediate stop while in service at Jalan Sultan Ismail.

The chronological of the incident is as follows:

  • At 0920hrs, Train 05 departed Bukit Nanas Station heading for Raja Chulan Station when one of load wheel (rubber tyre) burst; bringing the train to an automatic immediate stop, which is one of the safety features of all trains used by Rapid KL Monorail Line.

  • About 200 passengers were on board of the train.

  • Train Captain immediately request for assistance from Operation Control Centre at Wisma Monorail; which immediately assigned Train 01 for rescue, which was despatched from Bukit Bintang Station at 0926 hrs.

  • Train to train evacuation was conducted and all passengers were safely transferred to rescue train at 0946hrs. No injuries recorded.

  • Monorail services continued with contingency plan of Alternate Train Shuttle Service (ATSS) i.e. 3 trains moving on a single track (down beam) with frequency 30 minutes.

  • Continual announcements were made at all stations informing customers on the waiting time; with suggestion for them to take alternative mode of transport. Announcements through social media were also regularly made.

  • Refund coupons were issued to passengers that had already entered through the gate.

  • Normal service resumed at 1915hrs.

  • An internal investigation committee headed by Head of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) has been set up for a thorough report.
